In a statement on Friday, Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi condemned the attack, during which four men dressed in black raided the Iranian embassy in London, climbed on to a first-floor balcony of the building, took down the Iranian flag, and waved flags of their radical cult in an apparent protest against the Islamic Republic.

Iran's Foreign Ministry said the British government has officially apologized over the storming of the Iranian Embassy in London by a few assailants, and the United Kingdom police has arrested all of them.

The four were arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage and being unlawfully on diplomatic premises, a spokeswoman for London's Metropolitan Police said.

The men, who did not manage to get inside the building, came down voluntarily after around three hours.

The report said supporters of a "Shirazi cult" living in Britain were responsible.

Persian contributor Hossein Aghaie confirmed the information on Twitter, adding that Shirazi's son Hossein was recently arrested for criticizing Iran's leadership.

Four men have been arrested in connection with the incident, according to Iran's Ambassador to the UK, Hamid Baeidinejad.

The blue and white flag is thought to be that of a group called Khoddam al-Mahdi, who support Ayatollah Shirazi as their supreme leader.

In a statement on Friday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said the London police has arrested the four supporters of a radical group residing in the United Kingdom after they climbed onto the balcony of Iran's embassy building and disrespected the Iranian flag.

Iran's English-language Press TV said a religious group was behind the attack, without elaborating. One hostage was killed in the five-day siege, and another died when British commandos stormed the building, killing all but one of the gunmen. Two of the hostages also died.
