"Understandably, this is very distressful not only those who have received the letter but also for the wider communities", Labour MP Naz Shah wrote on Facebook. "I would appeal to the wider community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police".

He said the letter was not addressed to anyone and appeared to have been "sent out randomly".

Several Britons in London, the West Midlands and Yorkshire said they received the printed letter through the post, according to reports, Al Jazeera news network reported.

Riaz Ahmed, a Liberal Democrat councillor in Bradford, in West Yorkshire County, told The Mirror on Saturday that he had received one of the letters at his business address.

"Punish a Muslim" letters calling for acts of violence against Muslims in the United Kingdom have prompted a police investigation.

Even though counter-terror police found no connection between this letter and the one sent to a mosque in Manchester last November, this incident should not be taken any lightly.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said it was not yet clear whether any criminal allegations relating to the letters had been reported in the capital.

The offensive letter suggests various methods for "participants" to collect points, ranging from verbally abusing a Muslim (10 points); physically assaulting a Muslim (100 points); explode a mosque (1,000 points); and nuking Mecca (2,500 points).

Tell MAMA quoted the assistant chief constable of the South Yorkshire Police, Tim Forber, as saying the threatening letters were being investigated and details would be forwarded to the counter-terrorism police.

The leaflet says, "They have hurt you, they have made your loved ones suffer". It has a second-class stamp on the plain white envelope and the frank mark is Sheffield.

In addition, they encourage people to "torture" and "butcher" Muslims in a day of Islamophobic violence on April 3.

Police in Bradford have acknowledged they are investigating reports of the letters.

'It seems odd that anyone would send something like this to an address in a predominantly Muslim area.

"When I opened it and saw the content I was horrified", he told the Telegraph and Argus.

"My main concern is that it could get into the hands of other disaffected people in Bradford who just need that push to act".

"This has caused quite a lot of fear within the community".

On social media, many have condemned the letter, stating that they stand in solidarity with Muslims and refuse to tolerate hate crime against them.

Anyone with any concerns about a communication they may have received should contact police on 101.
