General Motors is planning to launch an Airbnb-type vehicle service through it's car-sharing platform, Maven, according to Bloomberg.

Although GM hasn't publicized the announcement, per Bloomberg, anonymous sources revealed that early this summer the company will start letting GM owners list their vehicles on the Maven platform for other drivers to book and use.

Assuming the pilot program is successful, GM plans to move forward to make the service into a viable business. Maven also has a program that gets cars into the hands of drivers for Uber, Lyft, and food delivery firms. It will allow owners to rent out their vehicles when they aren't using them. This new model, dubbed "Airbnb for your Car" by Bloomberg, would increase the size of GM's carsharing fleet, without the additional operational costs. In the last two years, Turo has seen its user base grow to almost 5 million and listed cars triple to about 200,000 units. The most important is how much the service would cost and how much vehicle owners could expect to make.

Fully self-driving Teslas may still be some years away, and Musk has said little about a sharing network since. The American Car Rental Association, a lobbying group for companies including Enterprise Holdings Inc. and Hertz Global Holdings Inc., is pushing lawmakers to eliminate what it sees as unfair loopholes from taxes that its members have to pay and that car-sharing companies have avoided. While GM is running Maven, the company is looking to expand the service.

GM has already charted the ride share waters, ever since it initiated the Maven program back in January 2016.
