SD 4th most gun-industry 'dependent' state

The study ranked states in three different areas: the firearms industry, gun prevalence and gun politics. While declining gun sales may sound like good news to many, it may be bad sign for economies relying heavily on the firearms industry.

Montana ranks second overall with Idaho at No. 1, and is followed by Alaska, South Dakota and Wyoming. At a minimum, a greater proportion of Kentuckians try to buy guns. Ownership of firearms, background checks, contributions from the industry to politicians and sales of gun related accessories.

The personal finance website WalletHub compared the 50 states across 16 key metrics, including most firearm industry jobs, the gun ownership rate, total taxes paid by the firearm industry and gun rights contributions to Congressional members.

According to the study, Maryland is the state least dependent on the gun industry.

States least dependent on the gun industry were primarily Northeastern states - Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Delaware and NY.
