The Department of Education have confirmed that all schools, colleges and educational institutes will remain closed for the remainder of the week at least as heavy snow falls in the region.

The national forecasters said that "Blizzard conditions will develop from the south Thursday afternoon and evening as heavy snow and strong easterly winds bring snow drifts northwards over the country".

"Our snow and ice teams are working hard to clear the airfield".

"We in Met Eireann are seriously anxious about flooding, over eastern parts, in particular the greater Dublin area".

Drivers have been warned there will be zero visibility.

It advised that high spring tides coupled with the impact of Storm Emma could result in coastal flooding, with southern and eastern coasts particularly at risk. She spoke at briefing following a meeting of the National Emergency Co-ordination Group in response to the severe weather.
