At 9:20 am, the Sensex was trading at 33,548, up 241.33 points, while the broader Nifty50 was ruling at 10,303, up 76.40 points. After a positive start, markets turned around in the second half of the session to close lower.

Sensex today: The benchmark indices started week on a positive note, with Nifty reclaiming its crucial 10,300 level, tracking a relief rally in Asian markets after the latest U.S. jobs report managed to impress with its strength while also easing fears of inflation and faster rate hikes, a neat feat that whetted risk appetites globally.

However, shares of Karnataka Bank (down 0.39 per cent) and South Indian Bank (down 0.20 per cent) were slightly down around that time.

All the sectoral indices, led by IT, Teck, oil & gas, FMCG and realty sectors, were trading in the green with gains up to 1.24 percent.

Bank Nifty recovers

Asian stocks are trading mostly higher this morning after the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 1.8 percent on Friday to extend gains for the sixth straight session and reach a record closing high on the back of upbeat jobs data.

Indian shares jumped almost 2 percent on Monday, in line with a global rally after the latest U.S.jobs report assuaged fears around inflation and faster rate hikes, while investors back home awaited inflation numbers due later in the day. However, wages grew less than expected at 2.6 per cent on an annualised basis.

Meanwhile, the US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.77 percent higher on Friday. The DAX was down 0.07 per cent, CAC 40 of France closed higher by 0.4 per cent and the FTSE 100 of the United Kingdom finished up by 0.3 per cent.
