Malala, youngest Nobel Prize laureate, has returned to Pakistan six years after she had been flown to London for treatment of critical gunshot wounds in 2012.

Malal was received by government and security officials and escorted as per VIP protocol directly from the airport to the hotel, where she will accommodate during her stay in Pakistan.

Reports said Malala is scheduled to stay in Pakistan until April 2 and will meet with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on March 29.

In 2014, Malala became the youngest recipient of Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 17, in recognition of her efforts for children's rights.

Many in Pakistan were jubilant over the visit, including lawmaker Syed Raza Abidi, who welcomed "the courageous and resilient daughter of Pakistan back to her country", on Twitter. A longtime advocate of education for girls, she wrote and gave interviews on the difficulties of getting proper schooling under the thumb of the Taliban in the Swat Valley.

She will be returning to her homeland after almost six years.

At just 11, Yousafzai began writing an anonymous diary for BBC Urdu about her life under Taliban rule.

But she faces intense criticism from some Pakistanis, including hard-line Islamists as well as members of the conservative middle class who support education for girls but object to airing the country's problems overseas.

Opponents were slain, people were publicly flogged for supposed breaches of sharia, women were banned from going to market, and girls were stopped from going to school.

During a recent appearance at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the feminist campaigner urged women to "change the world" without waiting for the help of men.
