London choosing confrontation: Russian Federation on May firing of envoys over spy attack London choosing confrontation: Russian Federation on May firing of envoys over spy attack

UK Prime Minister Theresa May blamed Russia for the illegal use of force on British soil and declared the expulsion of 23 Russian diplomats and other restrictions against Russia.

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday expelled the diplomats and suspended high-level contacts with Russian Federation after Moscow did not respond to her demand for an explanation on how a Soviet-designed nerve agent came to be used to attack former spy Sergei Skripal on British soil.

"While the secretary-general is not in a position to attribute responsibility, he strongly condemns the use of any nerve agent or chemical weapons and hopes the incident will be thoroughly investigated", Haq told reporters.

But French government spokesman Benjamin Griveaux yesterday said it was too early for Paris to decide whether action should be taken against Russian Federation.

The White House also issued a statement that the USA "stands in solidarity with its closest ally".

Earlier, The White House threw its weight behind the United Kingdom in the case of a nerve agent attack on a former spy and his daughter, saying it shares the British assessment that Russian Federation is responsible for the attack.

May told the House of Commons that 23 Russians diplomats who have been identified as undeclared intelligence officers have a week to leave Britain.

"We call on Russian Federation to address all questions related to the attack", U.S. President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May said in their joint statement.

Some in Russian Federation have suggested that the nerve agent could have come from another former Soviet country.

Former Russian-MI6 double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia are still in a critical condition after being exposed to the nerve agent novichok on 4 March in the Wiltshire cathedral city.

Downing Street said the Prime Minister used their phone conversation to update Mr Macron on the investigation and reprisals she had announced against Russian Federation.

And in a sensational twist he accused England of exploitng the crisis to complicate Russia's hosting of this summer's FIFA World Cup.

Britain is refusing to cooperate with Russian Federation in the case, Zakharova said, adding that Moscow sent to London four diplomatic notes to hold talks on the issue but received only "non-committal replies". And British officials requested a U.N. Security Council meeting.

Mirzayanov also said serious long-term health risks remain for hundreds of Salisbury residents who may have been exposed to trace contamination due to their proximity as the attack unfolded, or who brushed past the Skripals in a pub and a restaurant they visited.

May has spoken to US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in recent days to rally worldwide support.

British experts say Skripal, 66, and his 33-year-old daughter were poisoned with a nerve agent from a broad category known as Novichok, which was developed by the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

The case has drawn parallels with the 2006 death by radiation poisoning of former Russian agent and Kremlin critic Alexander Litvinenko, which Britain blamed on Moscow.
