Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, is learnt to have filed a caveat in the Supreme Court seeking hearing if the ED made a decision to challenge the Delhi High Court's order providing him relief in the alleged money laundering case, DHNS reports from New Delhi.
The judge allowed the agency to confront him with his chartered accountant Bhaskararaman, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on February 16 and was today sent to judicial custody till March 22 after EDs counsel Nitesh Rana submitted that the probe was on.
However, the agency has secured Karti's extended custody for three more days on Friday, contending that the fresh leads and material evidence in the case requires further questioning of the accused. A Delhi court had remanded him into the CBI custody till March 12.
It is submitted by the ED that during the course of the investigation, it was revealed that Bhaskararaman had been assisting Karti to manage his "ill-gotten wealth" in India and abroad.Counsel for CBI submitted before the court that further custody of Karti was necessary. "It is his constitutional right", Mehta said, adding that the court may quash the proceedings if it so wished, but it should not allow him to withdraw the petition.
The court also directed the investigating officer to get Karti medically examined every 24 hours during the custody, as per the rules.

However, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who is a party colleague of P Chidambaram, opposed any further custodial interrogation of Karti.
The trial court order came hours after a HC bench of Justices S. Muralidhar and I.S. Mehta granted Karti interim protection from arrest till March 20. It had registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), the ED's equivalent of a police FIR, against the accused named in a CBI complaint, including Karti Chidambaram, INX Media and its directors - Peter and Indrani Mukerjea. They have no new reason for my remand.
Documents and other material recovered by the Central Bureau of Investigation during the searches conducted on March 7 and 8 at the new address of Advantage Strategic Private Limited (ASPL) at Nungambakkam in Chennai are being seen as having substantial evidentiary value for the agency probing the INX Media corruption case of 2007. "I ask him how he is doing and if he is comfortable", Mehta said.
Karti had yesterday moved the high court after the Supreme Court had enabled him to pull back his writ request of against the ED summons with a freedom to take pressing redressal under the watchful eye of the high court.
