Dutch media showed footage of England fans chanting in Amsterdam's Red Light District and police moving in to disperse them.

De Telegraaf talk of cans and bottles being thrown, and there's claims people have been throwing bicycles into canals, although the Dutch newspaper weren't able to get confirmation of that.

A legion of England fans were arrested after a video has surfaced of at least 25 of them launching booze and plastic cups at a group of women in a boat, following by one of them diving into the Amsterdam canal.

Around 1500 fans were thought to have made the trip to the continent to follow Gareth Southgate's squad ahead of the crunch friendly match, but plenty are letting England down with their rowdy behavior.

The men were mainly accused of disrupting public order, the police said.

England won 1-0, Manchester United's Jesse Lingard scoring the decisive goal.

Police also confirmed one member of the police support team was injured while helping make an arrest.

To the South African players' credit, no player exchanged in any verbal barbs as Warner trudged towards the dressing rooms. Instead, the cricket was overshadowed once again in a series brimming full of unsavory incidents - majority off the field.

"I heard some of the booing of the anthem which obviously isn't acceptable", Southgate told a post-match press conference shortly after being informed of the trouble in Amsterdam.

"Anything else that takes away from that performance for them would be a great shame".

The flare-ups in Amsterdam come a year after despicable scenes marred England's friendly against Germany in Dortmund.

The FA will review those caught up in trouble in Amsterdam to see if ESTC members were involved and punish them accordingly.

One Twitter user wrote: " Wait till Russia.it won't be cells they're in, will be a puddle of their own blood! There was a riot van at the door pulling fans out of the pub.

A number of England fans are expected to have bought tickets in the home end for Friday's friendly, which is the first between the teams in Amsterdam since 2009 and the last away game before the World Cup begins in Russian Federation in June.
