The body-cam footage shows the officers running after him and shouting at him to stop. The suspect turned and advanced towards the officers while holding an object which was extended in front of him.

Clark's young sister was inside the house with his grandparents when police unleashed their hail of bullets.

She's talking about reports that the two officers who shot Clark last Sunday night because they thought he was in possession of a firearm. That's where and when officers encountered Stephon Clark, whom the video shows receiving verbal warnings from officers before they opened fire seconds later.

From the perspective of the body cameras, the overgrown grass obscured most of Clark's body on ground.

Watch Sacramento Police Officers shoot Stephen Alonzo Clark dead. The department released video footage on Wednesday showing the officers yelling that Clark had a gun before firing.

U.S. media is broadcasting today videos in which two local police officers from Sacramento, California shot 20 times an African American suspicious of carrying a gun, when he actually what he was carrying was a cell phone. Relatives, activists and Sacramento officials are questioning why police shot at an unarmed man in his grandparents backyard. Clark also does not appear to be holding anything in either hand. Directed by a law enforcement helicopter, two officers came to a corner, saw a man holding something and fired 20 shots in his direction.

As more officers arrive at the scene, one asks, "What did he have on him?" "I think in the grand scheme of things, it went OK", he said, adding that the country has a "rich" history of civil disobedience. "My concern is my brother, his kids being able to not have to worry about killed, being in a position in their life where they don't have to worry about being shot and killed in the streets or in their backyard". At the time, police said they were responding to calls of a person breaking auto windows nearby.

Demonstrators broke at least one vehicle window, doused a bystander with drinks and blocked busy downtown Sacramento thoroughfares in a second day of protests of the fatal officer-involved shooting of an unarmed black man.

The decision to compel release of the videos followed a series of controversial incidents, including one in July 2016 in which two Sacramento Police Department officers tried to strike a mentally ill homeless man with their cruiser.

Clark's murder exposes the futility of the various reforms put in place by police departments in the aftermath of mass protests against the police murders of Michael Brown, Freddie Grey, Eric Garner and many others since 2014. "It's very upsetting, it's very saddening to see people that look like you get killed over and over again in your city", said Tanya Faison from the Sacramento chapter of Black Lives Matter. "For instance, what are the protocols regarding use of force and for rendering emergency aid during officer involved shootings?"

In spite of these "reforms" police killings have continued apace.

He said the police actions show poor training.
