Sweden and Kuwait requested the meeting of the top United Nations body on Wednesday as Syrian government forces continued to shell rebel-held Eastern Ghouta, killing scores in some of the worst bloodshed in years. According to the United Nations, nearly 12 percent of children under five suffer from acute malnutrition in Eastern Ghouta; the highest rate recorded since the conflict began.

Having seized back territory in south-west Syria last month, Assad forces and their Iranian backed allies might soon reclaim much of the area up to Israel's disputed border, the Brussels based group said.

The SDF and the coalition targeted the attacking forces with air strikes and shelling after "20 to 30 artillery and tank rounds landed within 500 metres (yards) of the SDF headquarters location", a United States official said.

The ambassador also said that this problem is ignored by the US and accused America of double standards in fight against terror.

Meanwhile, in eastern Syria, the regime is accusing the USA of "aggression" after the Syrian government and the US -led coalition exchanged direct attacks in Deir el-Zour province. The state Al-Ikhbariyah TV said there were reports that dozens were killed.

According to official SANA news agency, the Syrian army continued its operations against Daesh in the isolated pockets in Hama, Aleppo, and Idlb, culminating in regaining control of 29 villages and towns.

The Russian Defense Ministry said the USA airstrike wounded 25 pro-Syrian volunteers.

The statement suggested the coalition was calling out Russian Federation on the assault, but it stopped short of actually laying the blame.

Turkish troops receive warm welcome by Idlib locals who cheer'Allahu Akbar

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia says he has told the U.N. Security Council that the USA -led coalition's airstrikes on Syrian government-backed troops were "inadmissible" and "deplorable".

That deal has unravelled with a broad government offensive in Idlib province in Syria's north-west and eastern Ghouta, two of the last major strongholds of the opposition fighting Assad. It said at least 45 pro-government fighters, which included Arab and Asian fighers, were killed.

The organisation said the situation had reached "extreme" levels which "we haven't seen before".

Rouhani was quoted as telling his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation that "tensions in northern Syria do not benefit anybody".

The officials said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed to the summit during a telephone call on Thursday.

Paulo Pinheiro, in a statement, added that the spiraling violence in Syria had made "a mockery of the so-called "de-escalation zones" - an agreement a year ago between Russia, Iran, and Turkey to stabilize the lines of conflict and open corridors for urgently needed humanitarian relief.

It came on the heels of the bloodiest day in months for Eastern Ghouta on Tuesday, when 80 civilians were killed in strikes.

The officials provided the information on condition of anonymity in line with government rules.
