Russian athletes and sports officials voiced disbelief that one of their Winter Games medallists was being investigated for suspected doping, a scandal that could imperil Russia's efforts to regain full Olympic status.

He is set to face a Court of Arbitration for Sport hearing in the near future.

Alexander Krushelnitsky, who competes in curling, one of the Games' least physically taxing sports, is suspected of testing positive for meldonium, a banned substance that increases blood flow and improves exercise capacity.

Moon claimed the presence of the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) team at Pyeongchang 2018 had "made the Games better" following a meeting with a delegation from the country at the Presidential Blue House on Tuesday (February 20).

CAS said Krushelnitsky accepted a provisional suspension beyond the Olympics but "reserved his rights to seek the elimination or reduction of any period of ineligibility based on "no fault or negligence" following the conclusion of the games.

Nedregotten and his partner, Kristin Skaslien, were visibly distressed when they lost out on the bronze to the Russian pair. They've started an investigation into how the traces of the banned substance got into Krushelnitsky' system.

Its athletes are competing at Pyeongchang as neutral athletes, and Russian Federation had been hoping that a clean record at the Games would enable it to return to full Olympic status.

"Unfortunately we have to part with the Olympic bronze medal", he said in a statement on the federation's website.

The positive test will ignite further debate about the involvement of Russian athletes at the Games and the prospect of the IOC lifting, or partially lifting, the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) before the Pyeongchang Olympics close on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by former Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin, OAR team head Stanislav Pozdnyakov and Russian Ice Hockey Federation President Vladislav Tretiak. Adams said Bach and Levitin "may have talked about something else", but he declined to speculate what that might have been.

"I accept a formal breach of the current anti-doping rules", he was quoted as saying.
