After concluding his historic tour to Palestine, Mr Modi reached Abu Dhabi yesterday evening as part of his three-nation visit. This is the first ever prime ministerial visit from India to Palestine.

During a joint press conference with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Modi highlighted his country's relationship with the Palestinian leadership.

Before taking off from New Delhi, Modi said he was "looking forward to my discussions with President Abbas and reaffirming our support for the Palestinian people and the development of Palestine".

Modi flew to Ramallah from Jordan by helicopter Saturday and laid a wreath at the grave of Abbas predecessor Yasser Arafat, located in Abbas' walled government compound.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed support Saturday in Ramallah for an independent Palestine and said he hoped for the return of peace to the region, while Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on India to support multicountry sponsorship of future Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. According to Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, Modi witnessed laying of the foundation stone for the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) temple on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai highway.

New Delhi was one of the earliest and staunchest supporters of the Palestinian cause and has traditionally voted in its favor at worldwide forums.
