In a shocking twist that absolutely no-one could have seen coming, former industry lobbyist, part-time man-child, and full-time FCC chairman Ajit Pai is reportedly under investigation by the FCC's internal watchdog.

The FCC investigator general, David L. Hunt, is looking into whether Pai spearheaded a rules change past year in cahoots with Sinclair Broadcasting. Dems want answers on security risk from fitness app MORE (N.J.), the top Democrat on House Commerce Committee, said in a statement.

"I am particularly concerned about reports that Chairman (Ajit) Pai may have coordinated with Sinclair to time a series of Commission actions to benefit the company". "It was unclear the extent of the inspector general's investigation or when it might conclude, but the inquiry puts a spotlight on Mr. Pai's decisions and whether there had been coordination with the company".

The Federal Communications Commission inspector general will investigate whether its chairman was biased in favor of Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc, which is seeking approval from the watchdog for a $3.9 billion acquisition of Tribune Media Co, a member of Congress said on Thursday. The combined local television stations would be able to reach more than two-thirds of the country's television audience.

"If the merger is approved, the conservative broadcaster would be able to air politically biased programming to more than 70 percent of the U.S. population", Free Press said today.

Pai's critics have noted that he has pushed through a number of deregulatory proposals that appear to clear regulatory obstacles from Sinclair's proposed expansion.

Democratic FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel said past year "it has reached a point where all our media policy decisions seem to be custom built for this one company".

At the time, a spokesman for the FCC representing Pai called the allegations "baseless" and alluded to it being a partisan play by those who oppose chairman.
