Accused Florida shooter was 'a monster living under our roof'

“He has mentioned in the past that he would like to purchase a firearm,” noted one of the 30-plus reports filed by cops responding to Nikolas Cruz's Parkland Fla. home Accused Florida shooter was 'a monster living under our roof'

A family who took in Florida school student Nikolas Cruz three months ago say they didn't know they had a "monster" living under their roof.

A source close to Rocxanne Deschamps, who took Cruz and his brother in after their adoptive parents died on November 1, told the Palm Beach Post the teenager had been taken to the facility for involuntary treatment.

The Sneads knew Cruz had multiple weapons and made him get a gun safe before he could move in with them last Thanksgiving after their son asked if Cruz could stay with them.

"When we went out to dinner, he went out to dinner with us".

Kimberly and James Snead said Cruz followed their rules "to a T" and was looking into therapy options just before the shooting. Kimberly Snead saw Cruz at about 10 a.m. on the day of the shooting, with no sense of what was to come.

They were forced to teach him basic chores such as how to cook, use the microwave, wash his clothes and tidy up after himself.

The Sneads say that while they are heartbroken for all the victims, they know no words can comfort the families.

They said they told Cruz he needed to ask permission to take out the guns. He said he didn't realize Cruz had his own key that allowed him to access the guns.

However, after being evaluated by Henderson Behavioral Health professionals, the decision was made not to hospitalize him.

Before she died, Lynda Cruz told investigators during the 2016 incident that her son had ADHD, depression and autism, according to the DCF report.

"He told my son he's going to the movies".

She also says she had started the process of getting him to see a counselor.

Asked if Cruz's alleged actions changed his views on whether it was his right to own a gun, Snead responded, "No. Nope".

The couple implemented strict rules and explained they thought he was doing well. He then received a call from a SWAT captain asking about the whereabouts of his son "Nikolas Cruz". James Snead thought he had the only key to the safe, but he now believes Cruz kept one for himself, he told the paper. "He apologized. He looked lost, absolutely lost", James Snead told the Sun Sentinel.

Snead is an Army veteran who served in the First Gulf War.

"So, he took the initiative to just save his other classmates", Carlos told ABC's Good Morning America. Police broke the news of the shooting to her as they searched the home. Snead's son was friends with Cruz and the entire family feels angry, like they were duped. James had to hold Kimberly back. "Really?' I yelled at him", Mrs. Snead recalled.

"I really wanted to strangle him, more than anything. I tried, I guess". "It's not the Nick I knew".

FBI officials also admitted last week that the agency failed to properly forward a tip about Cruz wanting to kill people to agents in Miami, prompting Gov. Rick Scott to call for the resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray.
