He ignited a firebomb in the class and tried to kill himself before being apprehended.

The victim, who is thought to be a customer, was attacked at 12.45pm in what police say was an "isolated incident".

Aleksei Volin, from Russia's Communications and Mass Media Ministry, said authorities were looking into whether there is any link between the incidents.

Russia's Investigative Committee said the ninth-grader entered a classroom during a lesson on Friday and attacked seventh-graders and their teacher.

The incident just outside the historic city of Ulan-Ude in Siberia, is the second reported school attack in the country this week. He threw a Molotov cocktail, after which he attacked the children and the teacher with an axe.
