Trump defends self after comments, says: 'I am not a racist'

Patty Aguilar | 17 January, 2018, 02:40

"Too bad!" Trump tweeted as he arrived at his private golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

"No, no, I'm not a racist", he said.

As some civil rights leaders, such as Rep. John Lewis, D-Ga., have responded to the alleged remarks by calling the president a racist, Young told Todd that "it doesn't help to label people". "And I'm telling you it's a gross misrepresentation".

On Friday, the president was widely condemned after it was reported that during a meeting with lawmakers on immigration reform, he asked, "Why are we having all these people from sh**hole countries come here?"

The president, according to the reports, also said the United States should accept more immigrants from places like Norway.

On Thursday, though, during White House talks about an immigration plan that would include protections for people from Haiti and other countries, Trump exploded with his "shithole" remarks, according to sources.

Senator Dick Durbin of IL, the only Democrat at Thursday's meeting, said Mr Trump had indeed said what he was reported to have said.

But Senator Dick Durbin insisted the United States leader had used "hate-filled, vile and racist language during the meeting".

In a short statement, White House physician Dr Ronny Jackson said the session at at Walter Reed military hospital "went exceptionally well".

Trump's doctor says he 'has absolutely no cognitive or mental issues whatsoever'
As a veteran, I find this an interesting slant, since his grandfather and father never wore the uniform of this country, and Mr. Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Jackson listed a variety of tests that indicate "the president's overall health is excellent".

South Africa Summons US Official Over Trump 'Insult'
Chesky added, "2.7M guests from Airbnb decided that countries in Africa, El Salvador, and Haiti were attractive enough to visit". The US government has suffered a backlash from most African countries over the "shithole" comment by US President Trump .

Trump's political brand was built on appeal to whites, many of them of modest income and education, who embraced his "Make America Great Again" campaign slogan and promises to restore blue-collar jobs and American global prestige.

"I'm not the only one that does not remember that being said".

"While expressing our shock, dismay and outrage, the African Union strongly believes that there is a huge misunderstanding of the African continent and its people by the current Administration", the AU added.

The claim that Trump used the word "sh*thole" has been corroborated by a number of Senators who were present at the meeting where he allegedly said it. Lindsey Graham of SC were mistaken in indicating that was the case. There is no other word you can use but "racist". "He said, 'Oh, that's a good line.' "When I talked to him about the impact this has on family unification, in a nation that values families with the flag as the most important symbols of our future, they scoffed at this notion".

He suggested in a statement Friday that the president had said something questionable, but Graham did not directly say Trump had used the term "sh-hole" to describe African countries. I don't know if they were taken - I wasn't in the room. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians.

Trump tweeted earlier Sunday that the program is "probably dead" and blamed Democrats.

"I think they were, yes".

Word of Trump's comments threatened to upend delicate negotiations over resolving the status of hundreds of thousands of immigrants who were brought to the country illegally as children. On Sunday, he said he thinks Trump is a racist.

He blamed Democrats for failing to reach a deal on DACA, the Obama-era policy that offers protection for children who were brought to the US illegally. Deals can't get made when there is no trust!
