This particular storm looks as if it will intensify at twice that rate as it moves up the to the Northeast region of the United States, according to Bob Oravec, the lead forecaster at the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center, the AP reported. This has resulted in various winter storm advisories, watches, or warnings for much of the Eastern seaboard Wednesday through Thursday night with blizzard warnings for the New England coastline Thursday night through Friday evening.

Blizzard warnings were in place along the coast from North Carolina to ME, with the National Weather Service forecasting winds as high as 55 miles per hour (89 kph) that may bring down tree limbs and knock out power. As the storm nears New England it will strengthen rapidly leading to blizzard conditions for the coastal areas of MA and ME tomorrow night into Friday evening.

The "bomb cyclone", expected to strike Thursday, would likely dump eight to 12 inches of snow in NY and hurl 40 to 60-metre per hour gusts. However, this is the most snowfall the city has seen in 28 years.

Private forecaster AccuWeather said snow would fall quickly during the day, at a rate of several inches per hour, with the storm intensified by the bombogenesis effect. This storm blew that standard away: One measurement found its pressure dropped 53 millibars in just 21 hours.

In southeast MA, forecasters said the day might start with freezing rain on the Cape and the islands, while by midday, a dip in temperatures may bring snow, high winds and possible flooding from "astronomically high tide". Charleston, South Carolina, saw the hightest accumulation of snow since 1989, and power outages were experienced statewide, the Post and Courier reported.
