Hundreds of families of terror victims on Sunday urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to deduct the salaries that the Palestinian Authority (PA) pays terrorists and their families from PA tax funds collected by Israel.
The Palestinian Authority paid terrorists and their families more than $347 million previous year, according to its own records. Specifically, terrorists sentenced to three to five years in prison receive from the Palestinian government $580 per month, which equals the average Palestinian income. That number increases to $2,900 if a terrorist is sentenced to 20-35 years in prison. American lawmakers have argued that the stipends are themselves incitement after captured terrorist have averred that they carried out the act of violence in order to receive the PA stipend. Prisoners who are residents of Jerusalem receive another 300 NIS per month, and those who are Israeli citizens are payed another 500 NIS.
The bill detailed that the PA spent a total of 550 million NIS in payments to current and former prisoners and another 687 million to the families of suicide bombers and injured terrorists. Married terrorists get a "bonus" of NIS 300 a month, plus "child payments" of NIS 50 per month per child. "This encourages and commemorates terror".
"The minute the amount of the payment is decided according to the severity of the crime and the length of the sentence-in other words, whoever murders and is sentenced to life in prison gets much more-that is funding terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens", Liberman said. "We must stop this".
The Defense Ministry bill is a version of legislation submitted by Yesh Atid MK Elazar Stern.
Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said Monday the Israel undermines global law by implying its use of death penalty against Palestinians who have been "indicted of carrying out, or trying to carry out operations".
Last Wednesday, the Israeli Knesset passed by preliminary first reading a bill that allows death sentences to Palestinians.
