MLA Aijaz Ahmed Pir courted controversy on Thursday when he said terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is our collective failure and terrorists who are from Kashmir are martyrs.
The statement from the PDP MLA comes in a day after Aijaz Ahmad Mir had asked the Jammu and Kashmir legislators to not be happy over the deaths of Kashmiri militants as they are also "brothers".
Mir, who hails from a militancy-infested area, said the time has come to talk to the Hurriyat, militants and other stakeholders to resolve the Kashmir issue and end the violence and bloodshed in the region.
He said, "We should not celebrate the killings of militants". We should not celebrate their killing, it is our collective failure.
Despite his apparent sympathy for the Kashmiri militants, Mir - who represents the Shopian district, a hotbed for terrorist activities - himself had been a target of a militant activity recently.

Days earlier, the party's chief spokesperson, Rafi Ahmad Mir, had expressed regret over the deaths of militants and said there was nothing wrong if party leaders met the families of the slain rebels to offer condolences. "How can they be someone's brother?" asked Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. "How can they be someone's brother", he told a news channel.
His comments, however, drew a sharp reaction from BJP which is in alliance with PDP in the state.
Speaking to NDTV, state BJP MLA Ravinder Raina said, "I condemn this ridiculous statement". "Young boys get glorified by taking arms in their hand and uploading the picture on social media sites".
However, his statement didn't go down will with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who is in alliance with the PDP in Jammu & Kashmir.
