Former "Jersey Shore" reality TV star Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino wrote to a judge that he will plead guilty this week to federal tax charges, apparently ending a more than three-year legal odyssey.

The Sorrentinos were initially indicted in 2014 and were accused of failing to properly pay taxes on $8.9 million in income that the reality star raked in from promotional activities.

Mike's brother, Marc, also faced criminal charges and also agreed to plead guilty. The seven-count indictment alleged the Sorrentinos earned that amount between 2010 and 2012, mostly through two companies they controlled, MPS Entertainment and Situation Nation.

Michael Sorrentino's lawyer didn't comment Wednesday on what charges to which his client would plead guilty. The plea is part of a deal that will be entered in court this Friday.

According to a court filing, obtained by ABC News, the Sorrentino brothers made a deal with the U.S. Attorney's Office in New Jersey that would help them avoid a trial, which was supposed to start in three weeks.

If convicted, Michael faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for each structuring count and five years in prison for the tax evasion count.

The Situation is facing up to 15 years in prison and his brother is facing up to 25 years.

As if all of that weren't enough, both of the brothers were already indicted on other charges past year, including tax evasion, structuring, and falsifying records.

They also said Marc Sorrentino tampered with business records sought by a federal grand jury investigating the men.

The brothers had originally pleaded not guilty.
