"I'm Not A Racist", Says US President Trump After Profane Slur

Mr Trump has faced heavy criticism since it was reported last week that he called Haiti and African nations "shithole countries" during a meeting in the Oval Office. "I hope you are", Lemon said. He said Democratic Sen.

The President has denied making the comment. "The President must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned".

"When I mentioned that fact to him, he said, 'Haitians, do we need more Haitians?' Then he went on and started to describe the immigration from Africa that was being protected in this bipartisan measure".

Trump said in the meeting that he would prefer immigrants from countries like Norway instead.

Trump spent today's King federal holiday in Florida with no public appearances on his official schedule, but he tweeted the radio and video address to his followers.

Trump said: "We want 'em to come in from everywhere, everywhere".

Asked what he thinks about people who think he is racist, Trump said, "No, No".

Republican Senator Jeff Flake said on Sunday he was told about the remarks by colleagues who attended the meeting, before the news reports emerged. But she says she doesn't "dispute the president was using tough language".

Trump has threatened to end DACA, but he seemed to keep the door open for a deal when he told reporters before dinner on Sunday night: "We're ready, willing and able to make a deal on DACA, but I don't think the Democrats want to make a deal...."

After controversy emerged over his apparent comments, Trump later tweeted: "The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used", and in another social media post defended that he: "never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country".

The newly appointed Department of Homeland Security secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen, said on "Fox News Sunday" she didn't remember hearing the word used.

Perdue said there were six people in the room and only one, Senator Richard Durbin, a member of the opposition Democrats, publicly divulged Trump's alleged choice of words.

During an interview on ABC News' "This Week", Perdue doubled down on his earlier claims that he didn't recall hearing the word used. He called the new stories a "gross misrepresentation". Durbin said the remarks were "vile, hate-filled and clearly racial in their content". Lindsey Graham were mistaken in indicating that was the case.
