Jurado began her career during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema in the early 1940s, where she often played strong, villanous, seductive women.

Ms Jurado was "stunningly lovely", as Google's description of their tribute described, but it was also the characters she played that stood out.

Her great talent and her particular beauty transformed her in the regular cast for Western movies between the 50s and 60s, working in movies like High Noon (1952), Arrowhead (1953), Broken Lance (1954), One-Eyed Jacks (1960), and Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973).

In her honour, Google is changing its logo in the United States, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Iceland, Sweden, Croatia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Indonesia, and Japan.

The handsome illustration that is featured in today's Google Doodle is the Mexican actress Katy Jurado. Her portrayal of saloon owner Helen Ramirez earned her a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actress.

"While she was stunningly attractive, her portrayals transcended the stereotyped, over-sexualized roles written for Mexican women at the time", reads a post from Google on the Tuesday tribute. Jurado is also seen holding a rose which symbolizes her birthplace of Guadalajara, Mexico, nicknamed the city of roses.

The newspaper warns that North Korea has various options that can be used against Washington at an appropriate time. North Korea's leader Kim Jong-Un's annual New Year address was a mixture of good and bad.

According to a Google post describing the doodle, Jurado knew limited English, so she learned her script by memorizing how the lines sounded.

Ms Jurado also won three Silver Ariel awards, the Mexican Oscars, for her portrayals as well as being nominated many more times for Academy Awards. She hailed from a wealthy family in Guadalajara - so wealthy in fact, they owned much of what is now Texas - who forbid the teenager from acting despite having an uncle who was an actor. Her trailblazing career in Hollywood helped paved the way for other Mexican and Latina actresses.

Jurado died in 2002 at the age of 78, the Guardian reported in an obituary for the screen star. Among the last of her more than 60 roles were in John Huston's "Under the Volcano" (1984), filmed in Cuernavaca, and Stephen Frears's "The Hi-Lo Country" (1998).

She moved to Los Angeles and married actor Ernest Borgnine, who called her "beautiful, but a tiger".

Her best-known Mexican performance was in the film Nosotros los Pobres ("We the Poor"), which was released in 1948.
