In Haiti, the drop was 29 points.

The poll which first started more than 10 years ago, last found that under Barack Obama, the approval rating of the U.S. stood at 48%, a number that has since been slashed to just 30% under the leadership of Donald Trump.

Global approval of the U.S. has fallen to a new low, from 48% under Obama to 30% under Trump, Gallup's global leadership poll finds. In 2016, 44 percent of Europeans approved of USA leadership.

From Politico: The steep decline, researchers said, can be largely attributed to the shift in leadership in the West Wing.

Gallup noted a recent study by Dartmouth and Australian National University that found that "public opinion about United States foreign policy in foreign countries does affect their policies [toward] the USA". In the United Kingdom, the approval rate for the U.S. dropped by 26 points with 63% voicing their disapproval.

President Donald Trump has made media attacks a signature of his political career, constantly rallying against organizations he deems "fake news" for reporting stories he does not like or deems unfair.

Last year, the United States led in the global approval poll, beating out Germany 48 percent to 41 percent. This spans President Bill Clinton's second term (the first year the economic outlook measure is available on a consistent basis) and the presidencies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

In just under half of the world's countries - 65 out of 134 - United States standing collapsed, by 10 percentage points or more.

President Donald Trump got back on Twitter this morning, and at one point, he issued a bit of misleading information about a supposed boost in his approval ratings. "This historic low puts the US's leadership approval rating on par with China's and sets a new bar for disapproval".

Approval of USA leadership climbed by 10% or more in only four countries: Belarus, Israel, Macedonia and Liberia. Close allies of the USA have seen particularly dramatic drops in approval rates for American leadership.

In a CBS News poll, Trump stands at 37% approval to 58% disapproval, while an NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll finds him at 37% approval with 53% disapproval and 10% unsure.

The Quinnipiac University poll of 1,212 voters nationwide, taken January 12-16, reports that 38 percent of voters approve of the job the president is doing. The climb lends credence to Trump's contention that he has strengthened ties to Israel. "And our phrase, you all know it - half of you are wearing the hat, 'Make America great again.' But we're going to make America great for all our people, everybody".

"It's probably because of our contributions to what's happening in the defeat of ISIS right now", Clifton said of the rise in support. Between 2016 and 2017, the portion of the world that approved of USA leadership fell 18 points. At least four in 10 see a lot of progress on bringing jobs back to the USA, cutting taxes for the middle class, defeating ISIS, and reducing regulations on business. "There are still a lot of people that want to come here despite how they feel about our leadership".

A thousand adults, aged 15 years or older across more than 130 countries, were questioned between March and November 2017.

Support for the US grew in several countries.
