CIA Chief: N. Korea's Nuclear Program Aims to Defend - and Intimidate CIA Chief: N. Korea's Nuclear Program Aims to Defend - and Intimidate

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said Tuesday that North Korea is moving "ever closer" to putting Americans at risk and that he believes leader Kim Jong Un won't rest until he's able to threaten multiple nuclear attacks against the U.S.at the same time.

While Pompeo spoke at length about the threats posed by North Korea, Iran and Russian Federation, he also discussed the threat of being outmaneuvered by cybercriminals who don't have to navigate through the same hierarchy that the USA intelligence community does.

A year into his role as the Central Intelligence Agency's director and amid a government reorganization under the Trump administration, Mike Pompeo says he's reshaping the CIA's workforce by cutting out as much of the agency's red tape as possible. "The rhetoric has personalized it but I don't think it is the reason".

Pompeo said that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will not stop with a single successful test and the next logical step would be to develop an arsenal of missiles that can be fired simultaneously.

Pompeo said North Korea's nuclear weapons program has developed at a 'very rapid clip, ' but that Kim is hoping for an arsenal of nuclear weapons - 'not one, not a showpiece, not something to drive on a parade route'.

"This is a risky act of throwing a wet blanket over the current positive atmosphere of inter-Korean relations. which could drive again into an extreme phase of confrontation", Han Tae-song, North Korea's Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, said.

Taken on the morning of January 11, Planet photos also show some 20 dot-shaped groups, apparently troops, lined up at the center of the square, and other photos, taken 30 minutes after them, display some of the groups were moved, the broadcaster said. "Can they reliably deliver the pain which Kim Jong-un wants to be able to deliver to the United States of America?" "And our mission is to make the day that he can do that as far off as possible".

Pompeo said US intelligence on North Korea had improved in the past year and "remarkable creativity" had helped in the interdiction of shipments to North Korea violating United Nations sanctions.

"I am proudly saying that DPRK's nuclear force is capable of frustrating and countering any nuclear threats from the United States and it constitutes a powerful deterrent that prevents the U.S. from starting an adventurous war".

"We have officers all around the world working diligently to make sure that we do everything we can to support the United States pressure campaign and to tighten the sanctions", he said.

"We're not quite where we need to be", Pompeo admitted. "We're pretty confident on that".

"We are concerned that he may not be getting really good, accurate information".

"Tell someone you are going to do that and then try to get a life insurance policy", he added, referencing Kim's history of executing top officials and his even own relatives.

"So that we understand what's going on and the risks associated with it", Pompeo said.
