Apple reportedly doesn't have plans to revamp its current MacBook Pro lineup in 2018, sticking with what it's got for the rest of the year. Digitimes' sources have revealed that Foxconn has been lobbying aggressively for this change, offering attractive quotes for components.
A new report from DigiTimes claims that Apple has no plans to make any major upgrades to it's MacBook Pro lineup in 2018. The company has reportedly chose to order more units to Foxconn this time around. In 2017, Quanta had a 79.5% share and Foxconn 20.5%. The company is willing to shift production this year reportedly because Apple does not have a major hardware update for MacBook Pro in the pipeline for this year.
It appears Apple will be increasing its MacBook supply from Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) this year.
The sources also indicated that Foxconn is already expected to commence mass shipments to fulfil Apple's orders in the second quarter. With the new production schedule, Quanta will be not removed but it sounds like it will lose about 30% to give both companies an even split of orders.
With Quanta losing out to Foxconn, the Taiwan-based manufacturer has been trying to acquire orders from other vendors recently during their request for quotation (RFQ) processes.
The 2017 Mac Book has the same deficiencies as the 2015
According to Digitimes Research's figures, the upstream supply chain has shipped around 15 million MacBooks a year to Apple with the shipment ratio for Quanta and Foxconn at around 8:2 for the past five years.
However, Foxconn is apparently ready to offer Apple better prices. This 2018, Foxconn's efforts may seem to have finally paid off.
If you're looking forward to this year's new Apple MacBooks, then there might be news for you.
The news comes days after Bloomberg published a report about Apple meeting with suppliers of nuts and bolts for its upcoming AR glasses at last week's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018.
