The doctor says he had "absolutely no concerns" about the 71-year-old president's cognitive abilities, but performed the screening because Trump asked him to do it.

Labossiere was among Haitians and Africans in the Bay Area and around the world who swiftly called Trump out for his comments, calling them blatantly racist.

In another Twitter post, the president wrote that he "never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very troubled and poor country". Trump reportedly used the word to describe African countries during an Oval Office meeting on Thursday with a bipartisan group of six senators on immigration reform.

The chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus and the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee said today that they plan on introducing a censure resolution against President Trump for his reported comments about immigrants from certain countries.

"Enough is enough: If the head of any corporation said what the president said yesterday, that person would be fired".

President Donald Trump insists he is "not a racist" in response to reports he described immigrants from Haiti and Africa as coming from "shithole countries". "And he said them repeatedly".

Beyond his denial about the comments, Trump touched on topics ranging from DACA to North Korea. The remarks, Durbin said, were "vile, hate-filled and clearly racial in their content".

"We also need people to pick tomatoes and who will work in the agricultural sector, and there's merit to that also,"said Paul".

Almost a year into Trump's presidency, members of Congress are still struggling to relate to the unorthodox Trump and his spontaneous, often crude remarks.

No tape is expected to be released as the comment was allegedly made in a private meeting, and it's unclear whether a recording even exists. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) was present at the meeting, and alleged that Trump also wondered why the USA didn't have more immigrants from economically stable countries like Norway.

Earlier, Mr Trump said the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) - which protects illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children from being deported - would "probably" be discontinued.

He said "it could have been a compliment and a nice sending off for Erna Solberg as a trusted U.S. partner", Heldahl said. There are nearly 800,000 young DACA beneficiaries who will face imminent deportation in March if we do not reach a deal.

But in another tweet on Friday the president denied that he insulted Haitians.
