Wojcicki said YouTube was taking a "new approach to advertising", with more manual curation, stricter criteria for videos eligible to show ads, and a greater number of ad reviewers. Subsequent revelations that YouTube was offering up cartoons featuring what the BBC called "animated violence and graphic toilet humor" added fuel to the controversy.

Susan Wojcicki, the CEO at YouTube said in a blog post on late Monday that the company will be increasing the number of employees working as supervising the contents up to more than 10000 by next year.

"There can be another, more troubling, side of YouTube's openness".

Almost 70 per cent of violent extremist content is taken down within eight hours of it being uploaded and "we continue to accelerate that speed", she wrote in a blog.

YouTube is now facing fire for publishing videos targeted at children with sexual and violent themes, for which the company said that it is going to substantially increase the amount of people supervising the contents in 2018.

Economic Buzz: Eurozone Private Sector Growth Accelerates In November

Wojcicki said machine learning is helping Youtube's human reviewers remove almost five times as many videos than previously and that today, 98 per cent of the videos removed for violent extremism were flagged by machine-learning algorithms.

"We are also taking aggressive action on comments, launching new comment moderation tools and in some cases shutting down comments altogether", Wojcicki said.

Earlier this year, advertisers fled the site after ads appeared next to extremist content. It's already been using the technology to help remove violent extremist videos. Equally, we want to give creators confidence that their revenue won't be hurt by the actions of bad actors.

Wojcicki said 180,000 people would have had to work 40 weeks to assess the same amount of content.

"We've heard loud and clear from creators that we have to be more accurate when it comes to reviewing content, so we don't demonetise videos by mistake".

The YouTube CEO also stated that the company had developed a "computer-learning" technology capable of weeding out radical content on the platform, where hundreds of minutes of videos are uploaded each minute.
