The Time person of the year is not actually one person.

How does Time choose its Person of the Year?

President Donald Trump was runner-up this year, but in 2016 he won the accolade for the "revolution" he stirred in the US.

The magazine cover bears the phrase, "The Silence Breakers" and describes the women featured as "the voices that launched a movement".

The cover features five courageous women: Ashley Judd, the first woman to share her experiences with Harvey Weinstein, Susan Fowler, the former Uber engineer who blogged about her experiences at the company, Adama Iwu, a lobbyist who organized an open letter signed by 147 Californians, Taylor Swift, who sued a DJ for $1 after he sued her for losing his job after groping her and Isabel Pascual, a strawberry picker who changed her name for the story to protect her family after being stalked and threatened at work.

What are some of the events that sparked the movement?

In February, the engineer Susan Fowler alleged pervasive sexism and sexual harassment during the year she worked at Uber.

Accusations of sexual harassment against O'Reilly cost Fox more than $45 million in claims settlements. He has denied any wrongdoing. "Even though awareness is higher than ever about workplace sexual harassment, there are still so many people who feel victimized, afraid and silenced by their abusers and circumstances". His retrial is set for April.

The movement gained momentum after The New York Times published a damning exposé featuring several women who publicly accused Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexual harassment and assault. The latter, USA Today reported, represents women who have yet to come forward with their stories. This was brought into the forefront by American actress Alyssa Milano when she tweeted out the moving cry - "If you've been sexually harassed or assaulted write "me too" as a reply to this tweet" - October 15.

"I could never imagine this, I could never have envisioned something that could change the world", Burke told "Today". "I was trying to change my community". At least 50 prominent men have been accused of sexual misconduct in recent weeks, according to the Associated Press. "The women and men who have broken their silence span all races, all income classes, all occupations and virtually all corners of the globe".

Last month, Trump suggested he was going to be named Time Person of the Year again, but that he turned it down.
