For comparison, Jackson has enhanced his completion percentage to 60.4 percent (from 56.2 percent last season) and increased his passing average to 290.8 yards per game (from 272.5 yards per game last season).

Barkley, a 5-foot-11, 230-pound junior from Coplay, Pa., had been considered a front-runner for the award in the first half of the season.

Jackson's 2017 season has been better than a year ago with regards to his completion percentage and interception count, but his team's lack of success could be an issue for Heisman voters. He's led Oklahoma to an 12-1 mark thus far, which included a Big 12 championship and a birth in the College Football Playoff.

The award is given to the most outstanding player in college football in the United States whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.

Love was a monster out of the Cardinal backfield, coming in second nationally in rushing yards (1,973) while going for an insane 8.3 yards per attempt.

The finalists were announced on ESPN's "Monday Night Countdown" by former Heisman winners Desmond Howard and Charles Woodson.

Saquon Barkley's name has been closely associated with the Heisman Trophy race since the beginning of the season, but as the Nittany Lions fell from the top of the rankings, so did Barkley's chances of winning the award, leaving many to believe Penn State's running back was "snubbed".

Jackson leads the nation in total offense with 4,932 yards and is on pace to set ACC season and career records for total yards per game.

Out of nine Big Ten Conference games, he rushed for less than 100 in six of them.

He finished with 1,134 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns.

The Pompano Beach, Fla., native ranks seventh in NCAA history for rushing yards by a quarterback with 3,974 and needs just 26 yards to become the seventh quarterback to rush for 4,000 yards in a career.
